Studies / The UniVersus Crossover Premium

UniVersus is a crossover TCG with one shared rarity ladder, and Godzilla is king

UniVersus is unusual: a single fighting-game TCG that licenses 12+ franchises — Godzilla, My Hero Academia, Attack on Titan, Critical Role, Cowboy Bebop, Street Fighter, Yu Yu Hakusho — and drops them all into one shared rarity ladder. We priced 5,278 singles across 59 sets to answer two questions: which treatment carries the money, and which franchise is worth the most.

The rarity letter barely matters — the treatment does

Walk the printed ladder and almost nothing happens: a Common medians $0.16, an Ultra Rare only $1.68, and even a Secret Rare sits at ~$4. Value ignites only when a card gets a treatment: Alternate Art lifts it to $5–16, and the serial-numbered Chrome Rare tier medians $302 — about 735× the typical card and the entire top of the market. In UniVersus the chrome finish, not the rarity code, is the tax.

One game, many franchises — and Godzilla is king

Every franchise shares the same rarity ladder, so the ceiling is a clean brand-vs-brand read. Ranked by top price.

My Hero Academia is the biggest franchise by far (2,169 priced singles) but tops out lower — bigger print runs, lower ceiling. Scarcity, not popularity, sets the top price.

FAQ

What is the most valuable UniVersus card?

A King Ghidorah, Three-Headed Monster (Chrome Rare) from the Godzilla set at around $750. The top of the market is almost entirely Godzilla Chrome Rares — Shin Godzilla (~$670) and Mechagodzilla Kiryu (~$563) sit right behind it — followed by serial-numbered chase cards from Critical Role and Attack on Titan (~$450 each).

Does the printed rarity decide a UniVersus card's value?

Barely. A base Common medians $0.16, an Ultra Rare only $1.68, and even a Secret Rare medians ~$4. Value ignites only when a card gets a TREATMENT: Alternate Art pulls it to $5–16, and the serial-numbered Chrome Rare tier medians $302 — about 735× the typical card. The chrome finish, not the rarity letter, is the tax.

Which franchise is worth the most in UniVersus?

Godzilla. Every licensed franchise shares the same rarity ladder, but Godzilla's Chrome Rares lap the field with a $750 ceiling. Attack on Titan and Critical Role tie next (~$450 serial-numbered chase). My Hero Academia is by far the biggest franchise by card count (2,169 priced singles) yet tops out lower (~$360) because its print runs are larger.

Are UniVersus cards worth money?

Most are not. Across 5,278 priced singles the median card is $0.41 and 65% trade under $1 — a normal high-bulk TCG shape. The money is concentrated in a thin apex of Chrome Rare and serial-numbered cards, a tiny fraction of the game.

Where does this data come from, and is it reliable?

We took the TCGplayer market price of every priced UniVersus single (sealed product excluded) across 59 sets via the open tcgcsv.com dataset, then the median and max per rarity tier and per franchise (TCGplayer market price via the open tcgcsv.com dataset, valued 2026-07-05). These are reference estimates for raw cards, not sold or graded records; prices move. Reproducible from the open dataset.
