Foilio

Our stance

Card prices should be open

Every trading card game listed freely, every price built from open and attributed data, and a price history anyone can read, not gatekept behind a fee, an approval, or a single marketplace's say-so. Here is why Foilio keeps card prices free and open, and how.

Every game, listed

A card game should be on the map because it exists, not because a marketplace decided to list it. New, indie and regional games get a price view and a place to buy on Foilio, right alongside the big three.

Not one number

No single marketplace should be the price. Foilio shows a card's European reference next to its US reference, so you see the spread and decide, instead of trusting one gatekeeper's figure.

Open, attributed data

Every price on Foilio is built from free, openly documented, attributed data feeds, never a paid or approval-gated pipe. The source sits in the footer of every page, so you can check the provenance yourself.

Why open pricing matters

Pricing is quiet power. It decides what a buyer pays, what a collection is worth on paper, and which games the market treats as real. When one marketplace's number becomes the price for a whole continent, when reading or reusing that data costs money or needs sign-off, and when a new game has to be approved before it is even listed, the people who lose are collectors and the smaller games that never get a fair look.

None of that is a law of nature. It is a choice about who controls the numbers. Foilio makes the other choice: prices free to read, built from open and attributed sources, shown as a range across markets, for every game, with the history in the open. A price you cannot check, from a source you cannot see, for a game someone else decided to allow, is not a fair starting point for a trade.

What Foilio does about it, today

Free for everyone, no account, no API key

Look up any card's value, scan a card to identify and price it, value a whole want list, or drop a live price on your own site with the free price widget, with no sign-up and no key to request. Pricing you can see should not sit behind a login.

Every game, including the ones that get overlooked

Foilio prices Pokemon, Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh, Lorcana, One Piece, Riftbound and dozens more, and our open research has measured 29 card games and counting. A game no big marketplace bothers with still gets a where-to-buy view, so no one can gatekeep it off the map.

The spread, not one gatekeeper's figure

A card does not have one true price. Foilio's US vs EU comparison puts the two biggest markets side by side, and every venue points at more than one place to buy, never a single point of failure.

Price history you can read, and research you can cite

See a card's daily price trend and per-country lows on Live Market, watch what is moving on the price movers board, and read our open-data studies, published under a Creative Commons license and free to quote with a link.

Being built: an open layer any game can plug into

Beyond the free tools live today, we are building a broader open price and history layer and open community trading, so any collector can open a lightweight shop, list a card in seconds, and keep every cent of a sale, with Foilio never holding the money and never taking a cut. It is in development, in the same spirit as the rest: free to read, open to every game, and never gatekept. See it taking shape on the all-venues view.

Questions, answered

Are card prices really free on Foilio?+

Yes. Looking up a card's value, comparing US and EU prices, checking a daily price trend, and reading our research are all free, with no account and no API key. The free price widget lets any website show a live reference price without a key too.

Why should trading-card prices be open?+

Because pricing decides what people pay, what a collection is worth, and even which games get taken seriously. When one marketplace's number becomes the price, when accessing that data costs money or needs approval, or when a game has to be accepted before it is listed at all, collectors and smaller games lose. Open, attributed, free-to-read pricing keeps the hobby honest and keeps every game on the map.

Where does Foilio's price data come from?+

From free, openly documented and attributed data feeds: Cardmarket's public European price and TCGplayer's US price via open catalog APIs (pokemontcg.io, Scryfall, YGOPRODeck, Lorcast, tcgcsv and more), each credited in the footer of every page. They are independent reference estimates to orient you, not sale records, quotes or financial advice.

Does Foilio charge for API or bulk price access?+

The prices and tools on the site are free to use. A broader open price and history layer that any game can plug into is something we are actively building, in the same spirit: free to read and not gatekept behind a fee or an approval.

Is Foilio against Cardmarket or any marketplace?+

No. Foilio is independent and not affiliated with any marketplace, and we use and credit Cardmarket's public price as one reference point among several. The stance here is pro-open, not anti-anyone: no single marketplace should be the only price, the only place to buy, or the gatekeeper of which games exist.

Can I list a game or a card that no marketplace carries?+

Every game gets a where-to-buy view and, once open community trading launches, a place for collectors to list their own cards, so a game with no big-marketplace listing is never frozen out. Open community selling on Foilio is in development.

Prices on Foilio are independent reference estimates aggregated from free, attributed public sources (see the footer for the full list), not live listings, sale records or financial advice. Foilio is an independent project, not affiliated with any marketplace or game publisher. Confirm the exact printing, condition and language before you buy or sell.
