Pokémon's August wave: Mega Forces and Ascended Heroes tins land August 28

August stacks up fast for Pokémon TCG: First Partner Collection Series 3 (the Hoenn, Kalos and Paldea starters) on the 7th, then the Mega Forces and Ascended Heroes tins together on the 28th, each carrying a brand-new foil promo of a Mega ex chase card.

August is a product-heavy month rather than a single big set, and that shapes how the value shows up. First Partner Collection Series 3 lands on the 7th with the Hoenn, Kalos and Paldea starters, a nostalgia play aimed squarely at collectors who grew up on those regions. Nostalgia sets tend to sell steadily rather than spike, so the story here is durable demand, not a release-day pop.

The 28th is the date that matters for chase value. The Mega Forces tins each pack a new foil of Mega Dragonite ex, Mega Darkrai ex or Mega Zeraora ex, and the Ascended Heroes tins (around 22 dollars, four boosters plus a promo) do the same for Mega Feraligatr ex, Mega Meganium ex and Mega Emboar ex. Those tin-exclusive foils are the low-supply layer: they are gated behind a specific product, so their availability is capped in a way a main-set pull is not.

The practical read is to separate the sealed tin from the promo it contains. Sealed tins hold reasonably while stock lasts, but the promo foils are what appreciate if the Mega ex behind them stays relevant. Log the promos the day they list, set a price alert, and watch whether tin restocks flatten the early premium before you pay it.

Why it matters for your collection

Tin-exclusive foils and starter-nostalgia sets create pockets of capped supply that outlast the pack-opening frenzy. The promo cards that only come in these tins are the pieces to track, not the boosters packed alongside them.
