Lorcana 'Attack of the Vine!' prereleases July 17
Set 13 prereleases July 17 and hits shelves July 24, the first Lorcana set featuring Monsters Inc, Up and Turning Red, with Hyperia City following in October.
Lorcana's collectible thesis is shaped by one fact about its publisher: Ravensburger reprints heavily. After the early sets sold out and spiked, the company made availability a priority, which is great for players and a warning for anyone treating base rares as an investment. A card that can be reprinted into the ground carries reprint risk that no amount of demand fully offsets.
That pushes the collectible layer up the rarity ladder. The enchanted and other chase-rarity cards from a fresh set are the ones with genuinely capped supply, and they are where the durable value in Lorcana concentrates. New IP debuts, and Attack of the Vine! brings Monsters Inc, Up and Turning Red for the first time, tend to drive the strongest chase-card demand because they pull in collectors who care about the characters more than the format.
The prerelease on July 17 into the wide release on July 24 is the window to build your read. Watch which enchanted cards hold their prerelease premium once product is on shelves, because that is the market separating hype from durable demand. With Hyperia City already scheduled for October, the reprint clock is always running, so the singles worth holding are the ones the printer cannot easily make more of.
Ravensburger reprints base sets heavily, so early Lorcana singles carry real reprint risk. The chase-rarity cards from a fresh set are the collectible layer to watch, not the base rares.
