MetaZoo, the cryptozoology-themed TCG built on Mothman, Bigfoot and the Piasa Bird, was briefly one of the hottest speculative bets in the whole hobby, with sealed product flipping for hundreds of dollars. What the aftermath looks like
We priced every MetaZoo single with a market price, 1,431 cards across 42 sets. The shape is stark: 81% of them now trade under $1, the median card is $0.25, and the single most valuable card in the entire game tops out at around $75, a Gold-tier Piasa Bird. Only the Gold tier moved
MetaZoo cards come in Bronze, Silver and Gold tiers, and the price ladder is almost flat until the very top. Bronze medians $0.18 (ceiling about $5), Silver $0.19 (ceiling about $6), and Gold $0.50 (ceiling $75). Bronze and Silver are effectively the same price; only Gold moves at all. So the tier matters more than anything else: a Gold cryptid is where any value sits, and the rest is bulk regardless of how hyped it once was.
The most valuable MetaZoo cards
The top of the market, all Gold tier: Piasa Bird at $75, Green Goblin $60, Mothman $40, Chains of Old Scratch $36, Possessed Aura $35, and Bigfoot $35. Note that even the number-one card in the whole game is around $75, which tells you just how low the overall curve now sits.
The lesson, for any hyped card
MetaZoo is a clean case study of what happens after a speculative wave: hype lifts every card at once, then it recedes and only genuine scarcity holds value.
