How to Sell Trading Cards on Discord Without Losing Track
Discord has no checkout for physical cards. Set up a #for-sale channel and one shop link that holds prices, stock and orders, so nothing sells twice.

The whole setup is seven steps and one afternoon: open a free shop, list the cards you will post, create a forum channel with a tag per game and a "Sold" tag, write three lines of guidelines, pin the shop link, and slow the chat next to it to one message every few seconds. Discord's Server Shop will not do the selling for you, because it sells only digital products such as downloadable files and premium roles, and only as a limited experiment on desktop and web in the United States. Members browse in Discord, order through your link, and you pack.
What Discord can and cannot sell for you
Discord has a few ways to take money, and none of them ships a card.
| Discord feature | What it sells | Works for a physical card? |
|---|---|---|
| Server Subscriptions | A monthly membership with perks | No, the perks live inside Discord |
| Server Shop: Downloadables | Digital files such as guides or art | No |
| Server Shop: Premium Roles | A role that opens a channel or perk, paid once | No |
| A message or a DM | Nothing, it is just talk | Only with your own checkout |
Server Subscriptions are a monthly subscription to a server, split into tiers with perks the admin chooses. The Server Shop sells Downloadables and Premium Roles as one-time purchases, and Discord says it cannot refund Server Shop items. All of it sits under Discord's Monetization Policy, which covers Server Subscriptions, App Subscriptions and Server Shop, requires the account holder to be 18 or older with two-factor authentication on, and lists what you may not monetize.
That leaves the physical side to you. A Charizard in a toploader does not fit inside a Premium Role, however hard you squint.
Why selling in DMs breaks around the second binder
DM selling works for the first few cards. Someone posts a photo, a friend asks "how much", you agree, they send money, you post the card. Then you put up a binder page of Dragon Ball Fusion World leaders and the cracks show.
The price lives in one message. The stock lives in your head. Two members write "I'll take it" within a minute, and you scroll back to work out who was first. Somebody asks "is this still available" about a card that sold on Tuesday. And when a buyer says the parcel never arrived, the only record is a DM thread that also holds memes, a trade offer and a voice note.
The fix is not a smarter bot. It is moving the three things that must be exact, which are price, stock and the order itself, out of chat and into one place. Discord then does what it does well: showing cards to people who already trust you.
The setup: one #for-sale channel, one shop link
You can do all of this today.
- Open a free shop. Sign in on Foilio, type a shop name and tap "Create my free shop". The shop is live at once at `foilio.net/shops/<name>`. The name needs at least 3 Latin letters or numbers. The guide to opening a shop covers the 4 setup questions: games, how cards reach the buyer, who pays delivery, and how you get paid.
- List the cards you will post. Scan a card to auto-fill it or search by name, pick the condition (NM is the default), set the quantity and price, and add up to 8 photos. Your own photos earn a "Real photo" badge. For a full binder, upload a CSV or Excel file, or your Cardmarket stock export, up to 300 cards per upload.
- Create a forum channel called #for-sale. Forum channels need Community turned on for the server. Choose Gallery View as the default layout, so members see card photos before text.
- Add tags. One tag per game (Pokémon, One Piece, Riftbound, Dragon Ball) and one "Sold" tag. Discord lets you make a tag required before anyone can post.
- Write the post guidelines. Three lines are enough: prices and stock are in the shop, orders go through the shop link, no holds by DM.
- Pin the shop link in the channel guidelines and in your welcome or rules channel.
- Turn on slowmode in the chat channel next to it. Slowmode sets a cooldown between each member's messages, from 5 seconds up to 6 hours, which stops "bump" spam without muting anyone.
Who may post in #for-sale is your call. If it is only your stock, let only you and your mods start posts and let everyone reply. If members sell too, see the FAQ below.
Forum channel or plain text channel?
| Forum channel | Text channel | |
|---|---|---|
| One drop per post | Yes, each post is its own thread | No, drops scroll away |
| Filter by game | Yes, with tags | No |
| Close a sold-out drop | Yes, "Close Post" locks it | Edit or delete by hand |
| Needs Community on | Yes | No |
The Forum Channels FAQ also explains auto-hiding: a post with no activity moves to Older Posts after 3 days by default, and you can pick 1 hour, 24 hours or 1 week instead. For a card channel, 1 week keeps a Friday drop visible through the weekend.
What a good drop post looks like
Make one post per drop, not one per card. A drop is a binder page, a fresh set, or "everything under a fiver". Use this shape:
``` Riftbound Origins: new singles, Showcase foils included Photos: front and back of the big ones Prices: in the shop, next to the market trend Order: foilio.net/shops/<name> Pickup at game night, or Speedy anywhere in Bulgaria ```
Keep the price in the shop, not in the post. When you change a price in the shop, the post is still right. Once the whole drop has sold, add the "Sold" tag and close the post.
Members also get something a DM never gives them. Every card you add in Foilio shows a Cardmarket reference trend, and buyers see how your price compares with the market, for example "10% under market". That answers the "is this a fair price" question before anyone types it.
How an order runs once someone clicks the link
Every order is one order card and one chat, from the first message to the review.
- The buyer places the order. You tap "Accept order" or "Decline".
- You agree payment in the order chat: cash on delivery, cash, card, Revolut or bank, whichever your shop offers. The buyer pays you directly. Foilio takes no cut and holds no money.
- You pack and tap "Mark shipped" with the tracking number. If you hand the card over at a meetup or at your local game night, tap "Handed over, done".
- The buyer taps "Confirm delivered", you tap "Mark completed", and the buyer can leave one review for the order.
If you cancel while the order is placed or accepted, the cards go back on sale at once. After an order is sent, either side can tap "Report a problem", and the chat keeps the full record with times. That record is exactly what a DM thread never gives you.
Shipping inside Bulgaria with Speedy? Set every parcel up the way buyers there expect: the buyer can inspect the parcel before paying, pays cash or card, there is no declared value and no insurance fee, and the recipient pays delivery, so the cash on delivery amount is the cards only. Inspecting before paying is free when the parcel has cash on delivery and not available for lockers, so send to a Speedy office or an address. A Foilio delivery option carries a price and can be marked "Cash on delivery" and "Inspect before paying". For the packing itself, read how to ship trading cards safely in the EU. To see a finished shop with those settings shown at the top, open Delin Collectibles, a live shop in Sofia.
Keep the server safe for buyers and for you
A card server is a target because members expect money to change hands. Most trouble comes from people pretending to be you or rushing someone.
- Write in the rules that you never DM first. Copycat accounts with your name and avatar message new members with "deals". If every real order goes through the shop link, members can tell the fake at once.
- Watch for pressure and bargains. Discord's own scam guidance flags strangers who are in a rush for you to act fast and offers that sound too good to be true.
- Audit your bots. The same Discord page warns about bots that impersonate well-known bots. Give admin rights only to bots you added yourself.
- Check payment in your own bank or app, never from a screenshot someone posts.
Growing it: drop days, regulars and other servers
A server that sells has a rhythm. Pick one drop day, post at the same hour, and ping an opt-in role such as @drops instead of @everyone. Regulars learn when to look, and the people who only came for deck help keep their notifications in peace.
New buyers come from other servers, so read their rules before you post a link. If a trading server runs its own #for-sale with a fixed format, follow it, put your shop link at the end, and do not paste the same drop into every server in one evening.
If you also sell in groups, the same one-link method works there too: see selling trading cards in Facebook groups. If the server is turning into a side business, how to flip trading cards covers buying to resell, and how to open an online trading card shop covers the setup beyond Discord.
FAQ
Can I sell physical cards through Discord's Server Shop?
No. Discord describes Server Shop products as digital: Downloadables and Premium Roles, each sold once. It is also a limited experiment on desktop and web in the United States.
Do I need a bot to run a card shop on Discord?
No. Forum tags, slowmode and a pinned link do the moderation, and the shop handles price, stock and orders. Every extra bot is one more account with permissions to keep an eye on.
How do I stop two members buying the same card?
Sell from one stock list, not from messages. Each card in the shop has its quantity, orders arrive one by one with a time on each, and if you cancel an order, the cards go back on sale at once.
Can members sell their own cards in my #for-sale channel?
Yes, if you allow it. Ask each member to post their own shop link instead of a price list, so every sale has its own order record, and write in the guidelines that the server does not hold money between members.
Does selling through Foilio cost anything?
Shops are free and there is no commission on sales. The buyer pays you directly, in the way you agree in the order chat.
