The rarity label tells you how the card was printed, not what it's worth. Boba Fett ("Collecting the Bounty") is a Common that out-prices every Rare and Special leader in the game — while Admiral Holdo ("We're Not Alone"), a Rare, trades around $25. Character popularity and print-run scarcity move price far more than the rarity tier does.
Method & sources
- Every Star Wars Unlimited leader is printed 3× per set (base / hyperspace foil / showcase, with Special-rarity leaders following a slightly different 1-2 print pattern). We took each leader's highest-priced printing as its collectible ceiling.
- Prices via the open SWU-DB API, sourced from TCGplayer USD market price.
- Compared medians (not means) between Common- and Rare-rarity leaders across all 5 released sets (90 priced leaders total) — median is robust to one outlier chase card skewing the picture.
- TCGplayer USD market price via the open SWU-DB API (api.swu-db.com). Valued 2026-07-01. Reference estimates, not sold records; prices move. Special-rarity leaders (n=10) were tracked but excluded from the Common-vs-Rare ratio for a clean two-tier comparison.
- TOS-clean aggregate stats. We never scrape marketplaces and never invent a number — reproducible from the open API.
FAQ
Are Rare cards worth more than Common cards in Star Wars Unlimited?
Not reliably, at least among leaders. Across all 90 leaders printed so far (5 sets), the median Common leader's priciest printing is $79 — about 1.16× HIGHER than the median Rare leader's $69. 53% of Common leaders trade above the typical Rare.
What is the most expensive Star Wars Unlimited leader card?
Boba Fett, "Collecting the Bounty" — and it's printed at Common rarity, valued around $248 for its hyperspace/showcase printing. It out-prices every Rare and Special-rarity leader released to date.
So what actually drives a Star Wars Unlimited card's price?
Character popularity and printing scarcity (how few hyperspace/showcase copies got made or how sought-after that specific art is) seem to matter more than the rarity label on the card. A beloved, iconic character at Common rarity (Leia Organa, Cad Bane, Boba Fett) can comfortably out-trade a niche character printed as Rare — the cheapest Rare we measured, Admiral Holdo ("We're Not Alone"), trades around just $25.
