Studies / The Elestrals Serialized Tax

Elestrals has 4 rarities and is a cheap game, except for 8 serial-numbered cards

Elestrals — the indie, Kickstarter-born monster-catching TCG — keeps it simple: just four rarities, and the whole game is cheap. Across 1,943 priced singles the median card is $0.34 and 71% trade under $1. So where is all the value? In 8 serial-numbered cards.

Four rarities, one real chase

Most modern TCGs bury value under a sprawling rarity ladder. Elestrals does the opposite — Common, Uncommon, Rare, Super Rare, and that’s it. Even the top printed rarity is affordable: a plain Super Rare medians $2.99. The only genuinely scarce cards are the Serialized parallels — individually hand-numbered versions of a Super Rare. They median $200, about 67× a plain SR, and there are only 8 in the entire game. The serial number is the tax.

The whole ladder — four tiers, plus the serial split

The SR line is split: 192 plain Super Rares (median $2.99) vs the 8 Serialized parallels (median $200). Same base card, the number is the difference.

FAQ

What is the most valuable Elestrals card?

A Equilynx (Serialized) at around $335. All of the top cards in the game are serial-numbered "Serialized" Super Rares — Emphyrix (~$300), Smeltung (~$280), Nyximera and Dratagua (~$200 each). There are only 8 of them, and together they are the entire high end of the market.

Why are Serialized Elestrals cards so much more expensive?

Because they are the only genuinely scarce cards in a simple game. A plain Super Rare medians just $2.99; the Serialized (individually hand-numbered) parallel of a Super Rare medians $200 — about 67× more. With only four rarities and no deep alphabet-soup ladder, the serial number is the one true chase.

Are Elestrals cards worth money?

Mostly no. Across 1,943 priced singles the median card is $0.34 and 71% trade under $1 — one of the more affordable modern TCGs to collect. The value is concentrated almost entirely in the 8 Serialized Super Rares; everything else, including plain SRs, is inexpensive.

How many rarities does Elestrals have?

Just four: Common, Uncommon, Rare and Super Rare — a deliberately clean ladder compared with the 20-to-70-tier systems in games like WIXOSS or Cardfight Vanguard. The only thing sitting above Super Rare is the Serialized parallel, which is a numbered version of an SR rather than a separate printed rarity.

Where does this data come from, and is it reliable?

We took the TCGplayer market price of every priced Elestrals single (sealed product excluded) across 49 sets via the open tcgcsv.com dataset, then the median and max per rarity, splitting the SR tier into plain vs Serialized by card name (TCGplayer market price via the open tcgcsv.com dataset, valued 2026-07-05). Reference estimates for raw cards, not sold or graded records; prices move. Reproducible from the open dataset.
